Akpabio calls on journalists to prioritize personal healthcare
Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has urged journalists to prioritize their healthcare needs while carrying out their reporting duties.
Akpabio gave this advice during a condolence visit to the Senate Press Corps following the passing of their member, Alhaji Tijani Adeyemi from Tribune Newspapers.
The Senate President emphasized the importance of the popular saying, “health is wealth,” and urged journalists not to neglect their health while focusing on their work. He acknowledged the stress and challenges journalists face in breaking news but stressed the need for them to be mindful of their health at all times.
Akpabio stated, “I would prefer to be celebrating with you in good health rather than coming here to pay my condolences. So, do not wait until you are unwell before seeking medical attention. Make it a habit to go for regular check-ups to prevent any deterioration in your health condition.”
He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Press Corps to improve access to routine medical checks and promote a culture of healthcare among journalists. Akpabio proposed the establishment of a facility where journalists could undergo medical check-ups individually or as a group.
In response, Mr. Sanni Onogu, the Vice Chairman of the Press Corps, expressed gratitude to the Senate President for his care and concern. Onogu also acknowledged Akpabio’s efforts in providing the Corps with a new Press Centre and appealed for continued assistance to enhance their work.
