Chelsea release statement on Reece James’ injury ahead of West Ham game

Chelsea Football Club have released the names of players that will not be available for the game against West Ham United.

The Blues will be without their new captain, Reece James, who suffered a hamstring injury while training ahead of the game against the Hammers. According to the statement from the club, the defender has started his rehabilitation process after being accessed by the medical team.

However, the injury to James means that Ben Chilwell will take his place as the captain when they file out at the London Stadium and Marlo Gusto was take his place in defence.

Marcus Bettinelli – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme

Armando Broja – at the end stages of his rehabilitation programme

Trevoh Chalobah – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme

Wesley Fofana – continuing with the early rehabilitation stages following surgery

Reece James – starting rehabilitation having undergone assessments on an injury sustained in training this week

Christopher Nkunku – beginning the early stages of rehabilitation following surgery
