Man arrested for allegedly beating his 22-year-old lover to death in Anambra

Anambra police command has arrested a man in his early 30s for allegedly killing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chidimma Christopher.

The suspect identified as Ikenna Asiegbu from Mgbakwu community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, reportedly carried out the act on Saturday February 4, at Urutolu village, Mgbakwu.

He allegedly assaulted the deceased despite interventions from their neighbours. It was also learnt that Chidinma gave birth to a baby six months ago.

After the suspect’s lover collapsed and was rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead, angry youths in the community descended on Asiegbu and beat him to a stupor.

They reportedly tried to set him ablaze before some vigilantes intervened, and took him to their office before contacting the police.

Some of the community youths who insisted that Asiegbu should be released to them, said there’s an agreement in the community that anyone who has killed should be killed as well.

Anambra police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident on Sunday February 5, and further disclosed that the suspect was in police custody.

Ikenga said;

“On Saturday, we received information that the suspect beat and murdered the victim in his house at Mgbakwu. The victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Further development shall be communicated please.”
