Police arrest five over death of 25-year-old man in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has paraded five suspects for alleged involvement in thuggery that resulted in killing of one Muktar Bashir, 25, of Limawa area of Minna, the state capital.

The incident occurred on Thursday in which the suspects were engaged in a free-for-all around Angwan-Daji and Limawa area of Minna of which the deceased was stabbed to death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, made the disclosure in Minna, said as soon as the command received the information on 2nd Thursday June, it swung into action leading to the arrest of the four suspects.

” Upon receipt of the information, Department of operations, Area Commander metro and other patrol teams in the metro were mobilized to the scene and two suspects were apprehended while others took to their heels.

He further explained that two days later, Saturday 4th, a distress call was received of a suspected reprisal attack that some youths were engaged in a similar fight around stadium junction; along Bosso road causing panic and blockage of the road.

According to him, The police tactical teams immediately moved to the area and three other suspects were arrested including a notorious gang leader from Angwan-Daji by name Isah Aliyu aged 23yrs (a.k.a Gaye, Obasanjo) who stabbed the said Muktar dead.

The four suspects included Ishaya Sunday, 22, ‘m’ of Bosso, Sani Ibrahim, 24,of Fadikpe, Aliyu Mohammed, 24, of Bosso, Isah Abdulrahman, 20, of Sauka-Kahuta.

However, Abiodun explained that the corpse was taken to General Hospital Minna for autopsy and later released to the family for burial.

The state police also stated that adequate deployment of tactical teams has been strategically put in place around the identified areas where these menaces occur within the metropolis to forestall reoccurrence.

The command then urged members of the public not to panic and go about their lawful businesses as the Police shall continue the flushing of notorious gangsters and their fleeing members.
