An unidentified woman slumped on Monday September 21 in Calabar while protesting against her sack through the Cross River State Government.
Governor Ben Ayade had mid 2019, directed the delisting of about 2,500 names from the payroll of the Cross River State government, claiming that most of these employed between 2014 until then did not follow due process.
The sacked workers on Monday blocked access to the country secretariat in protest over what they described as “unfair and unlawful delisting from the country payroll.”
The protesters who carried placards with inscriptions ‘we shall protest until the end’, ‘Head of Service need to be sacked’’, ‘Ayade you betrayed us’, said they were worn-out of now not listening to from the government and that the country labor union is complicit in their plights.
Speaking to newsmen, Comrade Paul Ajie Abang who led the protesters stated that they had at the beginning given the kingdom government a seven-day ultimatum to take motion or face a massive protest and that it was once their silence that has led to the peaceful protest.
Abang disclosed that the team had met with the Head of Service and all other relevant stakeholders to iron out the be counted but it looks the government is insincere and doesn’t want to act, and that the team will not again down until the right issue is done.
One of the protesters who recognized himself as ‘Papa’ stated the protesters have been part of the 2500 people from the kingdom who have been employed and then delisted from the state’s payroll.
“We are the 2500 personnel of the nation authorities who had been duly employed, acquired their appointment letter, and then delisted from the payroll with the aid of the government. We are taking this conflict upon ourselves because labor has failed us. We are out here struggle for our rights and we have no plan of leaving here till our voices are heard.” he said.
“We are here to let the world be aware of of the injustice being meted to us. for a yr and one month now we have not acquired our salaries and the government is tossing us around.” He added.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the woman who was until her sack a staff of the ministry of health, used to be later revived and taken home.
